Kovalainen: These are just rumours

Heikki Kovalainen says rumours of him heading to Sauber are just that while he wouldn't say no to a return to McLaren.

In the last month, the Caterham driver has been linked to a move to Sauber with reports claiming he is "particularly high" on Peter Sauber's list as the team owner considers replacing the under-performing Kamui Kobayashi.

And although Kovalainen didn't outright deny the stories, he has billed them as "rumours."

"These are rumors and that's all I can say," the Finn told motorsport-total.com "They (Sauber) seem to be very strong this year but that's all I can say."

Asked whether he would jump at a move to Ferrari, the Finn said: "For me, being at McLaren was a dream come true. They are a great team, but of course so is Ferrari.

"Fernando is doing a great job and Massa is getting better. A top team, no question."

That of course raised the question of whether he would consider a return to McLaren.

"They are a top team, I can only say good things about McLaren although I did experience some good and bad times there.

"But if in the future I had an opportunity to return to McLaren, I would despite the past as there's no problem with that.

"They are a great team and I am still in touch with lots of McLaren guys. I have a very good relationship with Martin Whitmarsh, for example.

"At the time we just did not fit, but there were reasons. Since then, a lot has changed."
