Button: Great race but result hurts

Jenson Button was torn over his feelings about the Chinese GP, conceding that while he had a lot of fun, missing out on the victory definitely hurt.

Following the first round of pit stops, Button found himself running in second place from where he tried to close the gap to race leader Nico Rosberg.

However, instead of closing up, Button lost ground when a bungled pit stop, caused by a problem with his left rear, dropped the McLaren driver outside the top six.

"I came to the marks but we had a problem at the rear of the car so I sat there for nine or 10 seconds, I think it was," said Button.

"It was a pity because when I exited the pits I had four cars in front of me, were cars that I wouldn't have been racing and I would have had a nice clear track to hopefully hunt down Nico."

Button, though, did not give up and put his three-stop strategy and fresher tyres to good use as he stormed through the field, easily overtaking his rivals, on his way to a runner-up result.

"There was amazing amounts of overtaking, and there were some great passes. I had a lot of fun, but there is a little pain in my back that hurts because we could have challenged for the win."

He added: "When you are in front on the first few laps and then you drop into traffic... I knew we had traffic and I was picking them off nicely, but after the last pit stop it became more difficult.

"Kimi was leading the train and everyone was DRSing, so until Seb had a go at Kimi I couldn't have a go at Seb. Overtaking Seb was the most fun of the race."

Speaking specificlly about his overtake on Sebastian Vettel for second place, Button said: "He was looking in his mirrors so he knew how much to push it, but I was hungry.

"This is what F1 is all about - amazing overtakes. You've got four World Champions trying to overtake each other. F1 in such great shape right now."
