Grosjean: Spanish qualy will be important

Romain Grosjean admits Lotus need to up their pace on Saturday afternoons, especially at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

Having qualified third for the season-opening Australian GP, Grosjean's performances on Saturdays have slumped since with the Frenchman failing to make the front two rows.

It's even more of a problem for his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, who has only twice even made it into the pole position shoot-out with a P4 being his best grid slot.

This weekend in Spain, though, Grosjean concedes Lotus needs to find something special as it is not easy overtaking on the Circuit de Catulunya.

"In Barcelona it will be important to qualify well, and it will be much harder to overtake than Bahrain," said the Frenchman.

"Qualifying is an area where we can still improve a little bit ourselves, we have some ideas of how to improve, and hopefully we'll get on to the front row."

But whatever happens on Saturday, he is hoping to build on his Bahrain podium finish come Sunday's 66-lap Spanish Grand Prix.

"We will have to see what we can pull out of the hat! We still need to build step by step. The two last races have been really good, both for the team and for myself.

"I will give my best in Barcelona and the goal for the next races is to get as far up the Drivers' standings as I can.

"I still have a lot of things to learn, I've only completed four grand prix as a full time driver for the season. It's not too much experience but every grand prix I finish is a fantastic experience for me. For sure the podium in Bahrain gives me confidence for Barcelona.
