Alonso to miss first pre-season test

Fernando Alonso will not be present at Ferrari's first pre-season outing with Felipe Massa and Pedro de la Rosa taking the driving duties.

Ferrari will launch their 2013 car at Maranello on 1 February, however, instead of moving with the team to Jerez, Alonso will bow out until the second test begins on 19 February.

Announcing their plans on the team's website, Ferrari revealed that it will "fall to Felipe Massa to give the car that Ferrari will use in this year's Formula 1 World Championship its track debut."

The team added that Massa will run for the three days at Jerez before handing over to new test driver Pedro de la Rosa for day four.

Alonso, meanwhile, will "intensify his physical training in preparation for a first part of the season."

The double World Champion will have his first taste of Ferrari's new car at the second test, taking the driving duties for the first three days at Barcelona before handing over to Massa.

The duo will alternate days behind the wheel for the final test.
