Pastor Maldonado believes Williams will start this season on a much better footing compared to the two previous two years.

The Grove squad were the last team to launch their 2013 model, the FW35, and they enjoyed some solid outings in the second pre-season test in Barcelona last week.

Both drivers got plenty of mileage under their belts with the Venezuelan racking up 178 laps and his team-mate Valtteri Bottas completing 189 laps.

Maldonado is pleased with just how much the team have improved since the start of last year.

"I'm very happy with the reliability of the car especially," he told Autosport.

"We've done a lot of mileage and we didn't have any problems even though this car is completely new.

"It's not the same car as last year with just a changed front wing like many teams have done. This car is a new generation, and it's looking good. All the data we got is very positive."

Maldonado, who won the Spanish Grand Prix last year, is not getting too carried away though as he knows just about every team made improvements ahead of the 2013 campaign.

"These days everybody says 'the car is better, the season is looking promising,'" he said.

"We can only refer to our car from last year. It's looking better. How much better? We don't know."
