Chandhok secures Team Lotus trial

Karun Chandhok will have a Team Lotus trial next week in Spain as he looks to secure a reserve driver role at the team.

Chandhok, who made his F1 debut with Hispania Racing last season but was dropped by the team after just ten starts, is looking to remain in Formula One.

The Indian driver has made it well known that he wishes to join Team Lotus, confident that team boss Tony Fernandes has the right vision for his fledgling team.

And now Chandhok's wish may come true after Fernandes revealed he will take part in the upcoming pre-season test at Jerez.

"We would like him to be reserve driver but we've got to see whether it all works out, that's the plan," Fernandes told Reuters.

"He is going to get a couple of slots in the testing now in Jerez and Barcelona and then we'll decide after that.

"Technical head Mike Gascoyne and team CEO Riad Asmat and everyone else feel he's the right guy to add value to the team."
