Lotus enjoyed another good day at the office at Barcelona on Friday as Romain Grosjean claimed P1, while Fernando Alonso ended bottom of the list.
After Red Bull's Mark Webber blitzed the field on day one with a 1:22.693 - which was more than one second better than the second-placed man - Grosjean proved that there is plenty of pace in the E21 with a 1:22.716 on soft tyres to shade Jenson Button, who used the medium rubber for his best run.
As was the case on Thursday, it was once again a pretty wet start to the session, but conditions did improve slightly as the day progressed with the sun appearing every now and then and allowing drivers to do plenty of running on their slicks.
McLaren's Button - who was quickest in the morning session - was four tenths of a second off Grosjean's pace with Pastor Maldonado of Williams completing the top three with a 1:23.628.
Webber's Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel ran a passive DRS during the morning, but he clocked his best time - a 1:23.743 - when the device was taken off and he finished 0.001 ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in the Sauber.
Mercedes' Nico Rosberg was the busiest man on day two as he completed 120 laps, but his time of 1:26.655 was 3.939 off the leading driver's pace, although it has to be pointed out that he focused on long runs alongside Ferrari's Alonso, who used the harder compounds most of the day.
"It was great to run in the wet today which I have not done so far during our pre-season testing programme," Rosberg said.
"The car felt good in those conditions and it's important to have had this experience as there is always the chance of rain in Melbourne. This afternoon, we did some race simulation work which was very productive.
"I am happy with my mileage today as every single lap is important for the learning process, and so overall it was a positive day for me here in Montmelo."
