Perez doesn't regret McLaren move

Sergio Perez is adamant he does not regret joining McLaren despite the team's woeful start to this Championship.

Signing for what is expected to be a race winning team, McLaren look anything but that at present.

The team's MP4-28 was off the pace in the season-opening Australian GP and it does not appear as if a solution had been found in Malaysia.

Such is McLaren's concern over the fundamental flaws of the car that there is even talk of reverting to last year's MP4-27.

But despite the team's trials, Perez insists he's "happy" to have joined McLaren from Sauber.

"I don't regret anything at all," he told Autosport "If they told me before we signed I would be in this position I would have definitely [still] signed with the best team.

"For me, McLaren is the best team and after joining the team I am so happy. I prefer to be in this position with McLaren than at any other team and winning.

"I am enjoying my time here, and I know the team has great people to help us come out of this."

The Mexican driver added that it is "amazing" the way in which McLaren have rallied in light of their troubles.

"I have to say big congratulations to my team. It is amazing how they are coping with this difficult moment.

"Even for me as a driver, when I joined the team, I thought I was going to be fighting for the front row, the top positions and we are far from there.

"But the approach of the team has been amazing. They are looking for a solution, and instead of people saying, 'you are the guilty one, you did the mistake', everyone is united and trying to get out of the difficult moment.

"Starting with Martin [Whitmarsh], who is a great boss, we are all guilty. It is not that someone did a mistake. We are losing as a team and when we win, we will win as a team together."
