Frijns left frustrated

Sauber reserve driver Robin Frijns admits he is disappointed to have been told he won't be taking part in pre-season testing in Jerez.

The 21-year-old joined Sauber ahead of the 2013 season as a replacement for Esteban Gutierrez who has been handed a race-seat.

Frijns comes with an impressive pedigree, having won the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 Series, and was hoping to get some time out on track but it appears his driving time will be limited.

"I think, this year, I will not have much to do," the 21-year old is quoted as saying by Formule1 magazine. "It's not only that I won't be doing the winter tests, but it also looks unlikely that I will be used during the Friday practice sessions. And, as Sauber has no simulator, I can't gain experience in that way either."

A Sauber spokesman has been quoted as saying that the Dutchman would "get the opportunity to be present at the technical meetings, to engage with the engineers, and participate in our fitness programmes", something which will "provide a good basis for the future."
