Diffuser row blows over

The dispute over the use of the controversial off-throttle blown diffusers in Formula One is finally over.

The teams have agreed to scrap the ban of the device after Ferrari and Sauber finally decided to throw their weight behind the plan.

The Italian and Swiss-based outfits were initially not in favour of an agreement to return to "pre-Silverstone set-ups and strategies", but they've had a change of heart following a series of meetings between technical gurus during the weekend.

F1 surpremo Bernie Ecclestone made the announcement after the race at Silverstone and the re-instatement of the use off-throttle blown diffusers now only needs to be rubberstamped by the FIA ahead of the German GP.

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali told Autosport that everyone is relieved that they can finally draw a line under the debacle.

"I think that this thing was not really good for everyone," he said. "We need to draw a line and now look ahead, because otherwise where we are going? Even if I think I don't agree with the process, for the benefit of the sport we should have action."

He added: "To be honest, when you think of the bigger picture you think of a wider opening. I have to say that I don't think all the people are behaving like we are."
