Alonso: The aim is still to win

Fernando Alonso is adamant he's not giving up on the World title despite the many trials facing Ferrari and their F2012.

The Italian stable has struggled with their new car this season, which has proven to be well off the pace.

Ferrari are set to introduce a heavily revised car in time for the next race, the Spanish GP, and began testing new parts at Mugello on Tuesday.

And although Alonso admits Ferrari are having a tough time, the double World Champion insists they will not give up on their season.

"The Championship is proving to be a real battle, but even if it's tough, the aim is still to win," he told the Ferrari fans gathered at the Mugello circuit on Monday.

"Every sportsman has a strong spirit of competition within him, which means you can never give up, while the work of everyone around you is also an important stimulus, an obligation to always give 100 percent.

The Spaniard also spoke of his love for Ferrari, saying that "when one spends so much time with them, the team becomes your family and I feel right at home here.

"And that's nice, because we don't just work together, we spend a lot of our free time together and without that, then a very important incentive would be lacking."

After four grands prix, Alonso is fifth in the Drivers' Championship on 43 points, ten behind pace-setter Sebastian Vettel.
