Ferrari boss: Title is in our hands

Ferrari boss: Title is in our hands

In an attempt to fire up the troops, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has urged the Marenllo squad to "capitalise" on Fernando Alonso's excellent position in the Championship.

Alonso is joint top in the Drivers' standings after five races following victory in Malaysia and a second-place finish at his home grand prix in Spain last time out.

Things, though, are very congested in both Championships as a host of drivers are right on the heels of Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, but Di Montezemolo is confident Ferrari can win the title if they bring home the results.

"The Championship is in our own hands," he wrote in an open letter to staff at Marenllo.

"The Championship is very open and so far, there has not been one dominant force. A series of circumstances and the work done here to improve the car, as well as Alonso's great ability, has led to us leading the Championship after five rounds.

"We must capitalise on that, with each one of us giving our very best at home and at the race track, including Massa who must bring home the results we expect from him.

"I know from [team principal Stefano] Domenicali, with whom I am in constant contact, how hard all of you are working.

"Of this I am sure, also because winning the Championship depends only and exclusively on ourselves: on our ability, our creativity, our determination and our desire to show that we are the best."
