Sutil found guilty on assault charge

Former Force India driver Adrian Sutil has been found guilty on an assault change and has been handed a suspended prison sentence.

The German was found guilty of causing bodily harm to Lotus F1 co-owner Eric Lux during a brawl after the Chinese Grand Prix last year.

Sutil , who is without a race seat for 2012 after being replaced by Nico Hulkenberg and Force India, reportedly attacked Lux with a champagne glass in a Shanghai nightclub and the latter required stitches in a nine-centimetre-long wound.

He apologised when he appeared at the Munich court on Monday, saying the incident was completely "unintentional and accidental" and he "never wanted for this to happen".

Judge Christiane Thiemann found Sutil guilty on Tuesday and handed him a suspended 18-month prison sentence and a €200 000 fine, which will be paid to charities.
