Michael Schumacher has reportedly held 'preliminary talks' with Mercedes GP that could see him make a comeback next season.
The seven-time World Champion was set for a brief return with Ferrari during this year's Championship before a neck injury put paid to his plans. But that doesn't mean he's out for good.
According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, 'Schumacher has been sounded out about a sensational return to Formula One next season' with Mercedes Grand Prix.
The newspaper claims that given 'Mercedes takeover of Brawn GP and World Champion Jenson Button's shock switch to McLaren, the possibility of a German dream team with Nico Rosberg is emerging.
'The associations would line up beautifully. Schumacher won all his World titles under the guidance of Ross Brawn at both Benetton and Ferrari, and Brawn will continue in the role of team principal at the newly minted Mercedes team.'
The deal, which would net Schumacher the same salary that Button turned down at Brawn GP in favour of McLaren, would finally see the German teaming up with Mercedes, who were in the past unsuccessful in their bids to lure him away from Ferrari.
'Talks are understood to be at an early stage,' claims the Telegraph.

"dweeb and gauchokansas, I don't think I've ever agreed more with a post than with you guys - F1 is becoming a load of flag waving nationalistic toss with all this talk of dream teams. I've tried to point out the irony in a few recent posts about how Mclaren is Mclaren International, and how Mercedes Benz design and build their F1 cars and engines in the UK, and have only minority shareholdings in the hands of german nationals. It's quite ridiculous, F1 is for motor racing fans, not just for people who want to cheer "their boy" on becasue he happens to be from the same country as them, otherwise they would have no interest in the sport. If people want to go flag waving they should drop F1 and wait for the world cup next year when they can go ballistic in the pub/beer hall after a few pints of ale/lager."

"Hope it doesn't come to this. A great driver and a rather ruthless person. If he won't be able to beat Rosberg on the track... well who knows accidents happen. Maybe we would see more of Schumacher's sharp ride handers :)"

"May he was trying to get his little brother a job with Brawn. Little Ralf drives for Mercedes after all."

"Sounds like this could be some more idealistic 'dream team' twaddle dreamt up by M-B board room bozos that are bored and don't get out enough. I mean, guys, would you want that mustachio'd git Zetsche fronting your team ?!! Remember the Jaguar F1 farce? Best if M-B do what they've done all along, which is give their engine to a racing team and let them do the winning for you. Even back in the 1950s M-B picked the best drivers irrespective of nationality (Fangio, Moss, Ascari - I think), which is what they should do now. That way, Button would have been sure of a seat."
